White Buffalo Woman

North American - An ancestral heroine of the Sioux. This maiden brought to the tribe the sacred pipe used in their ceremonies and drops of milk which, when planted, produced maize. Having taught the tribes the secrets of agriculture and magic ritual, she changed into a buffalo and left. In some accounts, called White Buffalo Woman, Ptesan-Wi, Ptesan-Wi, White She-Buffalo or White She-Buffalo.
