To-Karvuvu

Pacific Islands - An ancestor-hero in New Britain. Twin brother of To-Kabinana. A primordial god drew two figures in the earth and sprinkled them with his own blood, producing To-Karvuvu, the moon, and his brother To- Kabinana, the sun. When he tried to copy his brother's feats of magic he made a mess of things. The girls he produced from coconuts were either dead or had flat noses because he dropped the coconuts the wrong way up and the fish he carved was a shark which, far from driving fish ashore for him to collect, ate them. He is said to have eaten the first woman. Also referred to as To-Karvuvu.
