Chinese - A Brahmin. The founder of the Ch'an Tsang school of Buddhism. The Chinese version of Bodhidharma. Angry with himself for falling asleep, he cut off his eyelids to prevent a recurrence. The first tea plants grew where the eyelids landed. He is said to have crossed a river riding on a single reed. On occassion, known as Ta-mo, Indian Bodhidharma, Indian Bodhidharma, Japanese Daruma, Japanese Daruma or Bodhidharma.
