Greek - A poet. He wrote The Lamentation of Danae . Delivering a panegyric to Scopas, king of Thessaly, he included references to Castor and Polydeuces. The king paid him a half-fee and told him to look to the twins for the other half. Told that two young men on horseback were waiting to see him, he left the building minutes before the roof fell in. The horsemen, said to be Castor and Polydeuces, had disappeared. Also commonly known as Simonides.
