Salt Woman

North American - A tutelary spirit of the Pueblo tribes. The personification of salt. When she was refused hospitality in one town she lured all the children away from their homes and turned them into jays. In another town where she was well-received, she left some of herself so that the people could season their food. After that, she retired to her home in a lake. Her companion was Turquoise boy. On occassion, referred to as Salt Woman, Salt Mother, Salt Mother, Salt Old Woman or Salt Old Woman.
