New Zealand - A Maori sage. When his son was drowned, Rua- Pupuke changed himself into a big fish and retrieved his son from the undersea palace of the sea-god. When this god and his retainers came looking for the boy, Rua-Pupuke offered them food and shelter and, when they were asleep, set fire to the hut so that their bodies were burnt and the sea-spirits had to return to the ocean. Called Rua-Pupuke.
