East Indian - A female ghost. These beings, depicted as naked wild women, are said to cause the death of children by stillbirth or miscarriage, having themselves died in childbirth. They sometimes take the form of beautiful girls and seduce men but then emasculate them. In some versions of the story, a puntianak is a bird (an owl or a crow) which causes miscarriages. In some references, referred to as puntianak, pigobara, pigobara, pontianak, pontianak, Malaysian langsuir or Malaysian langsuir.
