Numa Pompilius

Roman - The second king of Rome. Husband of Egeria and Tatia. Father of Mamercus, Pinus and Pompo. He married his mistress and adviser, the water-nymph Egeria, after the death of his first wife, Tatia. When the protective shield, the ancile, fell from the sky, he had eleven copies made and hung all twelve in the temple of Mars so that any prospective thief would not know which was the real one. He is said to have started the cult of the Vestal Virgins. Also called Numa Pompilius, Pompilius or Pompilius.
