night-raven

General - A bird variously identified as a bittern, goatsucker, heron, nightjar or owl. In Denmark, the bird is said to be the incarnation of one who was murdered or committed suicide and was buried, at the junction of roads, in a grave from which it frees itself by moving only one grain of soil per year. Some say that this bird flies in front of the Wild Hunt. Sometimes referred to as night-raven.
