Greek - A goddess of destiny and retribution. Daughter of Erebus or Oceanus and Nyx. Nemesis was pursued by Zeus, both frequently changing form, until Zeus, as a swan, fertilised Nemesis as a goose. The resulting egg was found by Leda and hatched to produce Helen of Troy. The alternative version involved Leda directly with Zeus. She is depicted as carrying a bough of an apple tree and a wheel or, in other versions, scales or a whip and bridle, or axe. Her chariot is drawn by griffins. Occasionally known as Nemesis, Adrastea, Adrastea, Adrasteia, Adrastia, Rhea, Leda, Leda, Rhamnusia, Rhamnusia, Phrygian Ida or Phrygian Ida.
