Michizane Sugawara

Japanese - A sage. He was banished from the imperial court when he was unjustly slandered by the emperor's brother and retired to write poetry, dying soon afterwards. When the capital suffered a series of disasters, they were attributed to Michizane's spirit and, to appease the spirit, he was posthumously reinstated and deified as Tenjin, a god of learning and calligraphy. In some accounts, he is referred to as Temmangu. Also commonly referred to as Michizane Sugawara, Temmangu, Temmangu, Tenjin, Sugaware-no-Michizane, Sugaware-no-Michizane, (845-903) or (845-903).
