Marttanda

Hindu - A sun-god. One of the Adityas. Son of Aditi. He was nothing more than a lump of flesh at birth and his mother threw him away. The artisan-god, Tvashtri, shaped him into god-like form and he became known as Vivasvat, marrying Saranyu, daughter of Tvashtri. He became the sun-god, Surya. On occassion, referred to as Marttanda, Martamda, Martamda, Martanda, Martanda, Surya, Surya, Agni, Ravi, Surya Narayana, Bhaga(savitar), Dharmesh, Diakara, Dinakara, Grahapati, Karma-Sakshi, Mahadeva, Mart(t)anda, Mitra, Savitar, Savitri, 'shiner', 'sun', Vivasvat, Greek Apollo, Helius, Javanese Suria or Pushan.
