Keret

Canaanite - King of Sidon. Son of El. Consort of Hurriya. Father of Ellil and Yasib. He fought and defeated the moon-god, Etrah, who tried to take his kingdom. After Hurriya, his first wife, died (or, some say, after the death of his first seven wives) he was still childless so he went to war with a neighbouring king and took his daughter, or wife in some accounts, by whom he had seven sons, one of whom, Yasib, suckled by Anat, wanted his father's throne and led an unsuccessful rebellion when his father fell ill. Keret was cured by Sha'taqat, sent by El. Occasionally identified as Keret.
