Golem

Hebrew - An image brought to life: a servant automaton. It is said that Reb Low, a 16th C Polish rabbi, created an automaton which worked non-stop when a plate was inserted under its tongue but rested when the plate (which bore the name of god) was removed for the sabbath. When the owner forgot to remove the plate, the automaton disintegrated. Also commonly referred to as Golem.
