Greek - The goddess of discord. Daughter of Zeus and Hera or Nyx. Sister of Ares. Mother of Agea, Amphilogeai, Androktasiai, Ate, Dysnomia, Hyominai, Lethe, Limos, Logos, Machai, Neikos, Philotes, Phonci and Ponos. In some stories she is the daughter of Erebus and Nyx. Some say that Ate is Eris, others that Ate is the daughter of Zeus by Eris. Some say she was the consort of Ares and mother of Horcos. She was thrown down to earth by Zeus in one of his angry moods. It was Eris who precipitated the Judgement of Paris and all that followed from it by throwing the golden apple, inscribed 'for the fairest', into a gathering of the deities at the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. Occasionally known as Eris, Ate, Ate, Ata, Ateh, Atheh or Atta.
