dybbuk

Hebrew - An evil spirit. The dybbuk is said to be the soul of a person who has died with some unforgiven sin and seeks to inhabit the body of a human. This spirit could be exorcised; the victim could tell when it had left his body because a red spot and a cracked nail would appear on his big toe. In some accounts, referred to as dybbuk, dibbuk or dibbuk.
