churinga

Australian - Sacred tablets of the Aborigines. Each tablet contains the soul of a dead person awaiting reincarnation. When a suitable mother appears, the soul leaves the tablet, follows the woman home and is reborn. In some cases a hole is drilled through a churinga through which a string is passed, enabling it to be used as a bullroarer. In some accounts, called churinga, tjuringa or tjuringa.
