Hindu - A precious stone, made by Brahma, from which all knowledge could be obtained. Other accounts say that this stone was one of the objects that emerged at the Churning of the Ocean; others say that it was Indra's thunderbolt. It is variously described as an eightfaceted stone that emits a light brighter than daylight, or as a snake-stone (the jewel in the head of a naga) which can be hidden only by throwing cow dung at it. In some lore, occasionally identified as Chinta-mani, Divine Jewel, Divine Jewel, Divya-ratna, Divya-ratna, mani, mani, chinta-mani, Mani, Mani, Ratna, Kaustubha, Kaustubha, Chinta-mana, mani or mani.
