Chao San Niang

Chinese - Goddess of wigmakers. Originally the wife of a scholar, Chao San Niang suffered great hardship living on chaff while her husband was away from home. When her parents died she had to shave her head and sell her hair to pay for the funeral. She managed to save enough hair to make a wig in which she greeted her husband on his return, and was later immortalised as the goddess of wigmakers. Occasionally known as Chao San Niang.
