Atamalqualiztli

Central American - An Aztec festival in honour of the gods. During the ceremony, held once every eight years, all the people dressed as animals or birds and imitated their ways. At the end of the ceremony, all jumped into a lake filled with snakes and frogs, attempting to catch one of the reptiles in their mouths and eating them alive. Occasionally known as Atamalqualiztli.
