amrita-surabki

Hindu - The begging bowl used by the Buddha. When not in use, this bowl is kept in a lake from which it emerges on the Buddha's birthday so that Manimekhalai can use it to feed the poor from the never-failing supply of food it provides, and to cure the sick by allowing them to touch the bowl. Also known as amrita-surabki, amrita-surabhi or amrita-surabhi.
