Ambika

Hindu - Wife of Vichitravirya. Mother of Dhritarashtra by Vyasa. Her husband died before fathering any children so his half-brother, Bhisma, was prepared to do his duty to the widow in this respect. The hermit Vyasa anticipated him and Ambalika's son, Dhritarashtra, was born blind because, it is said, she closed her eyes when she realised who was in her bed.
