Welsh - A Welsh god of agriculture. Son of Beli and Don. Brother of Govannon and Gwydion. In the story of Culhwch and Olwen, only Amaethon was capable of the ploughing task that Ysbaddaden imposed on Culhwch and he was required to force the giant to plough the land using the ploughshare of Govannon and the four giants who had been turned into oxen. He is said to have visited the underworld and returned with a dog, a lapwing and a young buck belonging to Arawn, the lord of the underworld. Sometimes referred to as Amaethon, Amathaon, Amathaon, Amathaounta, Amathon, Amathon, Amath(a)on or Amath(a)on.
