Greek - Daughter of Catreus. Second wife of Atreus. Mother of Agamemnon, Anabixia, Menelaus and, some say, Pleisthenes. She was sold by her father as a slave and bought by Atreus who married her. She fell in love with Thyestes, her husband's brother, and handed to him the stuffed lamb that was taken as proof of the owner to succeed to the throne of Mycenae. Atreus killed her for this treachery. In some accounts, she was first married to Pleisthenese; in others, he was her son. Sometimes known as Aerope.
